Seriously, if you have not yet seen Spartacus, you are missing out. Here is a summary from the Starz website:
“Betrayed by the Romans. Forced into slavery. Reborn as a Gladiator. The classic tale of the Republic’s most infamous rebel comes alive in the graphic and visceral new series, "Spartacus: Blood and Sand." Torn from his homeland and the woman he loves, Spartacus is condemned to the brutal world of the arena where blood and death are primetime entertainment. But not all battles are fought upon the sands. Treachery, corruption, and the allure of sensual pleasures will constantly test Spartacus. To survive, he must become more than a man. More than a gladiator. He must become a legend.
This show has been causing quite a stir amongst my friends at work. Andy Whitfield, who plays Spartacus, is so freakin’ hot. Without even knowing it, Andy is probably causing some friction in my marriage, as Josh can only take so much oooing and ahhing over how sick his body is. I suppose my request for him to go to the gym with a picture of Mr. Whitfield, and hire a trainer to help him to chisel his body in the fashion of Spartacus did not help. I did add that I would not mind if Josh walked around without a shirt anywhere and everywhere, should he transform his body into a gladiator. The loin cloth would be optional. On Saturday, I hit a new low. Episode 8, “Mark of the Brotherhood”, features the Dominus, Batiatus, purchasing new slaves to be trained as gladiators. One of these slaves was blessed with a third leg. When my eyes laid eyes on this sight, I exclaimed; “OH DEAR GOD!!!” Josh, thinking something was wrong, ran into the living room and asked what is wrong. So I showed him that nothing was wrong at all and to “get a load of this!” When I asked him if he could believe the size of the slaves junk, he said “I don’t really care, Lisa.” I rewound the show again and paused it so that this man’s glory was frozen in the middle of our living room. Josh was not nearly as amused or as flushed as I was. Penis envy, Josh??
On Saturday, a friend on Facebook commented that she thought it was strange that the first three posts she read were Spartacus related. One of those was mine, as I created a fake claim that my job’s end of the year party would be Spartacus themed. I then managed to weave Spartacus into every comment that I made on friends’ posts. I don’t know how many people appreciated this, but my friends who are fans defiantly got my drift.
Bottom line---this show does have a story line, but all I see are sick bodies and a ton of blood. Lucy Lawless of "Xena: Warrior Princess" fame, is often baring the top half of her body. The party scenes are ridiculous. To sum up, my friend watched a few episodes on her laptop, in bed. Her computer overheated and now she is waiting for a new battery. Seriously, true story.
